Effect of the opening and location ratio on the performance of an H-Darrieus VAWT

Vertical axis wind turbines such as Darrieus are a very interesting category of low speed domestic turbines. Further research work is needed to enhance their efficiency fulfill the higher demand in small applications for power generation. The main objective this find turbine design boost starting capacity through an opening located at lower surface airfoil. We carried out thorough CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) investigation determine impact position on rotor's output. This new type airfoil uses standard NACA 0015 profile and with profile. Different sizes symmetrical evaluated method predict Cp CT H-Darrieus design. Five sections were designed describe rotor. Generally speaking, results showed that decreases ratio, desirable rotors ratio 0.12 0.36 considering CpLP.
